We are committed to providing quality care you can depend on.  Due to our unique set-up inside Costco, we simply focus on eye exams and taking care of your eye care needs.  There is never any pressure from us to sell you any products.  

Everyone is welcome in our office.  You do not need to be a Costco member to receive any services from us.  However, if you decide to purchase any glasses or products from Costco Optical, you must be a member or be accompanied by a member.  Our prescriptions are valid at any doctor's office or optical shop.

Dr. Chen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego.  He then went on to earn his Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) from the prestigious Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. 

Dr. Chen is committed to providing quality eye care to many patients in the community.  He performs more than 3,000 eye exams each year on patients ranging from 5 years old to 90 years old.  Dr. Chen has performed more than 47,000 eye exams in the past 18 years.

Q. Is Dr. Chen employed by Costco?
No, Dr. Chen leases space from Costco and operates his office independently.

Q. I don't have a Costco membership; can I still get an eye exam at Costco?
Definitely! Because our office is independent from Costco, you do not need to be a Costco member to have your eyes examined. 

Q. Do you sell glasses or contact lenses?
No. Because we make no income from the sale of glasses or contact lenses, our only interests are your eye health and good vision. You can take your prescription anywhere to get filled. Most people take their prescription inside Costco because of the great prices and the excellent quality of their lenses.

Q. What are your office hours?
Please check our online appointment scheduling for the most up to date hours of operation. 

Q. Do you take walk-ins?
Yes. We do accept walk-ins, however, to avoid waiting or the possibility that we might not have an immediate opening it is best to schedule an appointment. All walk-ins must arrive 1 hr prior to our office closing. For your convenience, you can now schedule your appointment online. 

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover). We also accept cash and debit cards. If you have a Flexible Spending Account with a credit card logo, we can also process this form of payment. Unfortunately, no checks are accepted in our office. 

Q. Your office does not take my insurance plan, can I still get an eye exam and have it covered by my insurance?
Most vision plans provide out of network coverage and will reimburse you directly. To be certain of your out of network benefit contact your insurance company. We will help prepare reimbursement paperwork for you at no charge.

Q. Do you test for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration?
Yes. Early detection of these diseases is very important. We test for these conditions during all annual eye examinations.

Q. I had an eye exam a little over a year ago and I seem to see fine, why do I need to have another eye examination?
Annual eye examinations are recommended for patients of all ages, even those who do not wear glasses. Your vision can easily change over a years time. This change often goes unnoticed as you learn to adapt to the gradual shift. Also, many eye diseases (such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts) do not affect your sight in the beginning stages. Early intervention is vital to preserve your vision and eye health.

Q. What types of contact lenses do you fit?
We fit all contact lenses on the market: astigmatism (toric), bifocal, gas permeable.

Q.  If I have any problems with the eyeglass prescription, what is your recheck policy?
If you are not satisfied with your eyeglass prescription within 90 days of the original exam date, we will recheck at no cost to you. After 90 days but not more than 6 months from the initial visit, there is a recheck fee of $40. (Disclaimer: $40 fee applies if medically or post surgery related even within 90 days)

Q. What is your contact lens policy?
Contact lens follow ups are included for the first 60 days of the initial visit. After 60 days but not more than 4 months from the initial visit, there is an office visit fee of $40. After 4 months, a complete contact lens exam will be charged.

Q. Do you offer refunds?
We do not offer any refunds on services rendered.  If you have any issues with your glasses or contact lenses, we are happy  to recheck it for you within the appropriate time frame (90 days for glasses, 60 days for contacts) at no charge (please see policy above).
